GMF Health has chosen the Kalgoorlie Boulder Police & Community Youth Centre (PCYC) and Stage Left Theatre Troupe Goldfields as the beneficiaries of funds raised from this year’s GMF Health ‘Give it a Go’ Kalgoorlie-Boulder Fun Run and Walk.
The PCYC works with youth and youth at risk to encourage physical activity and mentor children on self respect and discipline. They will use the grant to set up a crèche so younger siblings can be cared for on-site when children are participating in physical activities such as gymnastics and karate.
Stage Left Theatre Troupe plans to use their grant to purchase a set of hand puppets and a purpose built puppet theatre. The puppets will be used to convey messages such as health issues, disabilities and tackling bullying in schools.
Stage Left has also teamed with the Kalgoorlie branch of the Disability Services Commission and will create a special puppet performance around the International Day of People with a Disability in 2010.
