GMF Health goes online to fight health rebate change
GMF Health has created an online petition urging its members to sign up to fight a proposal by the Federal Government to means test the 30% rebate on private health insurance.
GMF Health Manager Fay Cappleman said the online petition would allow members to send a message direct to their local politicians to voice their concern over the proposed change.
Means testing the rebate, which currently goes to almost all Australians with health insurance, is being proposed by the Government.
Ms Cappleman said GMF was extremely concerned about the impact of this measure on its members, who would be hit directly and indirectly.
“A new report by independent financial analysts Deloitte shows means testing the rebate will significantly push up the price of private health insurance.
“We are calling on GMF Health members to go online and sign up to oppose the rebate – in fact members of any health fund are welcome to participate.”
To sign the online petition members simply need to visit http://gmfheath.saveyourrebate.com
On the same site members will also have the opportunity to send a personal message to members of parliament voicing their concern about the change.
“The report by Deloitte shows that not only will members directly impacted by losing all or a major part of the rebate, but other members will pay more as people drop their cover.
“GMF is determined to play its part in fighting this change on behalf of members and ensuring politicians get the message loud and clear: This is bad legislation and it needs to be stopped.”
